When we tell people that we are going to be leaving our home and moving into an RV, they usually want to know how we make our living. Replying that we have an “internet business” is usually enough for people to say “oh ok hmm that makes sense” and then move on to other questions. But for those of you who are curious to learn a little more about what we actually DO, this post is for you!
We do Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and I’m going to explain what that is so anyone without any computer knowledge can understand how we earn our money through the internet.
Anytime you searches for anything in Google, a list of 10 results comes up. These are the 10 results that Google “thinks” are most relevant to the keywords you searched. When a client has a website that they think should be listed in that group of 10 results for a keyword, but isn’t, they come to us to have us place it there.
Here’s an example: say a painter wants to rank #1 for the searched words “denver painter.” There are over 1000+ people searching the words “denver painter” in Google each and every month! You can see why a professional painter would want their company’s website to show up in the top 10 of Google – they would instantly get 1000+ people who need a painter looking at their website, which would massively grow their business!
If that same painter came to us for SEO help, we would be able to get their website in the top 10 of Google, no matter where there website was to begin with, or even if they never had a website before.
Here’s how we get websites to rank in the top 10 of Google for a keyword:
1. First we analyze their current website, or build one for them if they don’t have one. We find out exactly what we can do to make huge improvements in Google rank in the shortest amount of time.
2. Then we make on-page changes to the website. This includes the website structure, formatting, and tweaking all the text on the entire site. The main point of this is to make the website as relevant to the desired keywords as possible.
3. Next, and most importantly, we build links from other websites. The internet is sort of like high school – whoever is most popular gets to be on top! So, whoever has the most “links” or “recommendations” from other websites on the internet, will rank highest in Google.
